Ruff Rider Rodeo is all about a Dream
In 2000 a man by the name of Justin (Jay) Janish AKA: “Wrangler” decided he wanted to not only watch the
rodeo but be a part of it. Because he never rode before he decided to begin talking to people around the chutes in South Carolina
to find out what he need to do. He was told that all he has to do is pay an entry fee and sign up. That night Justin rode
4 seconds for his first time. Six months later Justin rode his 8 seconds but twisted his ankle when he jumped off the bull
and dropped to the ground. When he dropped to the ground the bull hit him twice in the lower back witch caused him to injure
his back. After that Justin got out of the rodeo life. In 2003 Justin and his mother went to a local rodeo in NY just to see
how he would do. He decided that he wanted to ride Bareback Bronc the next year. In 2004 Justin and his mother went back to
the local rodeo and he decided to once again talk to people around the chutes and find out what he would have to do. He was
told there was a chance for him to ride in what they call an expedition event. He was excited about this but did not have
any gear to do so. He then befriended one of the expedition riders: “Rigger” was his name. Rigger not only allowed
Justin to borrow his gear for the ride but also help train Justin how to ride Bareback Bronc. “Just Cowboy Up kid and
asked if you could ride expedition.” Justin did just that. His request was granted. Justin took his first ride on a
Bronc and scored a 7.5 second ride. Justin continued to ride expedition at the Attica rodeo, Erie Country Fair Rodeo, and
in a small town rodeo in Pennsylvania until he injured his back even more. This was a huge disappointment for Justin. In 2006
while attending Attica Rodeo he made a wise decision not to ride due to his injury. Currently Justin is in therapy and is
working hard to get his back healthy enough to ride again in 2007. While Justin awaits his recovery he has decided to start
a team for the men and women that have the same hopes and dreams that he has. He knows that many people that attend the rodeos
have the desire to be a part of it as he did. These individuals can do as Justin did just “Cowboy/girl Up” and
get on a Bronc, Bull, or Horse. All have the courage, strength, and sometimes craziness just for the thrill. They do not earn
any money and they risk injury each and every time they do so. Their friends and family support them each and every time they
ride while praying to God it all goes well. But to them it is all worth it. That is where the name “Ruff Rider”
comes from. It sure is a ruff ride if they have not experienced it before and each time they ride thereafter. Justin has started
this team so that these brave men and women and their family and friends can get the recognition that he feels they deserve
and the financial support they may need to follow their dreams.
